Sweettrio has been Grafton’s premier gourmet chocolate shop for 18 years. Ever since our opening day, we have delighted in serving our community.

In January 2025, Anette Righi DeFendi, born and raised in Grafton, became the new owner. As a lifelong lover of cooking and baking, she described her earliest childhood memory as being in church using the hymnal as a cookbook.

She went on to pursue an undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota, but ultimately found herself still thinking of her childhood dream of becoming a pastry chef. The dream came to fruition when she discovered a French pastry school just around the corner from her current workplace. It was here that she discovered her passion. Every new lesson in wedding cakes, ice cream, and even bread interested her, but nothing seemed quite right. Then came the classes in chocolate, and suddenly everything clicked. Not only did she have a natural gift for chocolatiering, she also found it fun and exhilarating.

After discovering her love of chocolate, she reconnected with her first love: her high school sweetheart who convinced her to move back home. It was there that she found an opportunity to take on the role of Chocolatier Assistant at the world-renowned Kohler Original Recipe Chocolates. Later on, given her exceptional skill, she was promoted to Head Chocolatier.

The title of Head Chocolatier hasn’t left since. Like so many others spanning countless industries, the chocolate business was deeply affected by the pandemic. During this time, Anette felt she may never be a chocolatier again.
Then, she received a phone call.

A friend had discovered that the incredible chocolate shop in Anette’s hometown, Sweettrio, was seeking new ownership. And who better than Anette to buy it? She was reluctant at first, but after stepping foot in the gourmet chocolate shop again, she realized it was exactly where she needed to be.

Sweettrio has opened its doors once more to new ownership and has enjoyed frequent visits from the founders who began this treasured business so many years ago. We are thrilled to continue as Grafton’s one-stop shop for the sweetest treats, and look forward to many more wonderful years of crafting life’s greatest gift: chocolate, of course!
